Industrialisation and automation of processes and manufacturing facilities is driving increasingly strong demand for electrically optimised cables to connect low-voltage electric motors and frequency converters. Along with reducing interference irradiation, significant damage to the bearings especially of larger motors due to high frequency bearing currents presents a problem.
In evenly (symmetrically) loaded three-phase current networks the diffuse magnetic fields can be minimised by even, symmetrical layout of the conductors. This means that cables with geometrically favourable phase layout substantially reduce the potential for electromagnetic interference.
Bearing currents occur mainly as a result of differing impedance between the live feed cable and the various earth connections. Something that does not matter with a 50 Hz connection becomes important due to the high switching frequency of modern AC drives. Electrically optimised means
